Welcome to the Together in Dementia Care (TDC) Co-Lab
Located at Simon Fraser University on the unceded and occupied Indigenous land belonging to the Coast Salish peoples, including the territories of the Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Skxwú7mesh, Stó:lo & Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
Started in early 2026, our research aims to improve accessibility and support for people living with dementia and their care partners through community partnerships and collaboration.
About Us
We are a growing team of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students at Simon Fraser University, care partners, people living with dementia, and healthcare professionals dedicated to improving dementia care and support through innovative and implementable research.
Community is our core
Research done by and with people affected by dementia
The mission of the TDC Co-Lab is to improve access to quality, evidenced-based care in dementia for all communities. This mission is only possible through community research partnerships, vision, and leadership. That’s why we call ourselves the “Co-Lab!”
Community collaboration foundational to the research we do because it ensures we’re asking the right questions and designing projects that matter most to the people living the dementia journey.

Research Focus
Projects that have real-world impact on dementia care
Our work broadly tries to address the following questions:
How are care partner needs shaped by dementia type and stage, age of symptom onset, and sociocultural context?
How can we increase resilience in the caring journey?
How do structural and social determinants of health impact the onset and trajectory of symptoms in dementia?
What is needed to build implementable, sustainable, and evidence-based programs for dementia care, particularly in historically underserved communities?
What can we do to foster mutually beneficial partnerships with community towards equitable research practices that support inclusivity and diversity in dementia research?
